English is an international link language. Although there are so many enriched European languages like French, German, Latin, etc., English remains the most popular language of the world. English as a language has been enriched by most of the classical languages of the world. It borrowed words from Indo-European languages like German and Sanskrit. French and Latin loan words are profusely found in this language. Even Indian words have been included to the English 
vocabulary. Therefore, it is quite evident that English is the most flexible language of the world. Its distinctive feature is how to enrich its phonemes and morphemes constantly by taking cue from other famous languages. Because of this power of adaptation, English is now a lingua franca.
Most of the inhabitants of this world have been using this language not as a foreign language, but as their second language. People of different countries place English just after their mother tongue. But apart from the inherent good features of this
language, there are some other reasons which make this language well-accepted. There are innumerable languages in this world. The world needs a link language so that people can be able to communicate quite easily.
Besides, the role of English in the field of academy is undeniable. Many seminal books of the world written in regional languages are now being translated into English so that people of different languages come to know about those books. Thus, English extends the scope of acquisition of knowledge. In business,

In the field of games and sports English plays à vital role to build up a communication between our nation and others. Besides, in education, English is such a language which we hardly deny. Most of the important books of the world are written in English. Therefore, we
cannot acquire knowledge without the help of this language. In the field of research, English is the only means which help us achieve the desired.It also helps us to access internet which is the best modern invention to have the information of the world at a glance.
In India since 1935 English has been emphatically taught in schools and colleges. But the students lacked the opportunity to learn this language in the primary level for almost twenty years. Although the result of it is most heinous, it is now being taught with much importance. Yet the admissible
fact is that students are being still deprived of learning this important second language, especially in Bengali medium schools and colleges, simply because of the inefficiency and lack of trainings of the teachers of West Bengal and also because of the lack of suitable learning situation.
